The Purpose

The purpose of this blog is to encourage the family of Four Mile Church to eat God's word on a more regular basis; to be nourished and fortified. Mile markers help you to know how far you have come and how much further you have to go. God's word is like a mile marker. My prayer is that this simple blogg helps you to partake in God's word and prayer on a more regular basis.

Please share your insights and revelations if you think they may encourage another brother or sister in Christ.

Colossians 2:6-7 (New International Version)

6So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Do you experience giving thanks primarily as a response to positive situations, or as a discipline?

What purpose might the discipline of giving thanks play in your being rooted and built up in Christ.

Make a list of those things for which you are thankful, and then give thanks for them. (The list may even contain painful things.)

P.S. If you are just joining us today and getting started, great. Don't feel like you have to do all the past devotions in one day to catch up. This is not a race. Go at your own pace.

Day Two - Get Movitvated

Objective Decide on a word or a phrase that best moves you toward fulfilling your basic desire. The goal is not to create your own agenda but to move you in the direction of God's will that fits who He created you to be. While this exercise is about you. Its more about who you are in God.

Prayer Take a few moments to thank the Lord for guiding you through these passages and for helping you determine your basic desire. Ask the Lord to help you understand yourself better.

Sharing: If you feel bold enough, share with us what God has laid on your heart as your basic desire.

FYI - This devotional is inspired by the book Developing Intimacy with God by Alex Aronis, a former pastor of mine. While we will not be going as in depth as the book, we will be using it's basic structure. Thank you Alex for your influence in my life and for this book.

Returning June 1st

Come back June 1st as I will begin an 8 week devotional on developing a deeper relationship with God and yourself.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Hospitality

3 John 1:5 Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you. 6 They have told the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. 7 It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans. 8 We ought therefore to show hospitality to such men so that we may work together for the truth.

Questions

1. To whom do you show partiality? Do you have favorites?

2. What does it mean to act in a manner worthy of God?

3. Whose name do we evoke with our actions?

Prayer

Pray that God would give you eyes to see the stranger in your midst, and the heart to love them in a way that declares the name of Jesus.

Coming . . June 1st

Begininig June 1st, I will be posting an 8 week devotional guide. This gudie is designed to help you understand yourself and God better. It will be simple, and allow you to go deeper.

As for Today. . . .

Matthew 5: 43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor[h] and hate your enemy.' 44 But I tell you: Love your enemies[i] and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Questions

1. Life is about relationship. What does this text say about relationships?

2. What is God's relationship to his people?

3. How would you evaluate your relationships?

Pray

Thank God for his bold love. Repent for your apathy. Ask God to help you love dangerously.

3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, 5 because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints. 6 I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. 7 Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.
Paul's Plea for Onesimus 8 Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, 9 yet I appeal to you on the basis of love. I then, as Paul—an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus— 10 I appeal to you for my son Onesimus,[a] who became my son while I was in chains. 11 Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me. 12 I am sending him—who is my very heart—back to you. 13 I would have liked to keep him with me so that he could take your place in helping me while I am in chains for the gospel. 14 But I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that any favor you do will be spontaneous and not forced. 15 Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back for good— 16 no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother. He is very dear to me but even dearer to you, both as a man and as a brother in the Lord.
17 So if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would welcome me. 18 If he has done you any wrong or owes you anything, charge it to me. 19 I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back—not to mention that you owe me your very self. 20 I do wish, brother, that I may have some benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ. 21 Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask. 22 And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers. 23 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. 24 And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers. 25 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

Ezekiel 34:11-16

11 " 'For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. 12 As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. 13 I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. 14 I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15 I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. 16 I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.

Psalm 131

1 My heart is not proud, O LORD,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.

2 But I have stilled and quieted my soul;
like a weaned child with its mother,
like a weaned child is my soul within me.

3 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD
both now and forevermore.

2. Does it reflect the reality of your heart?

3. Where is your hope today?

Prayer

Psalm 31

1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.
2 Turn your ear to me,
come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
a strong fortress to save me.

3 Since you are my rock and my fortress,
for the sake of your name lead and guide me.

4 Free me from the trap that is set for me,
for you are my refuge.

5 Into your hands I commit my spirit;
redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth.

6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols;
I trust in the LORD.

7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love,
for you saw my affliction
and knew the anguish of my soul.

8 You have not handed me over to the enemy
but have set my feet in a spacious place.

9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress;
my eyes grow weak with sorrow,
my soul and my body with grief.

10 My life is consumed by anguish
and my years by groaning;
my strength fails because of my affliction, [a]
and my bones grow weak.

11 Because of all my enemies,
I am the utter contempt of my neighbors;
I am a dread to my friends—
those who see me on the street flee from me.

12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead;
I have become like broken pottery.

13 For I hear the slander of many;
there is terror on every side;
they conspire against me
and plot to take my life.

14 But I trust in you, O LORD;
I say, "You are my God."

15 My times are in your hands;
deliver me from my enemies
and from those who pursue me.

16 Let your face shine on your servant;
save me in your unfailing love.

17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD,
for I have cried out to you;
but let the wicked be put to shame
and lie silent in the grave. [b]

18 Let their lying lips be silenced,
for with pride and contempt
they speak arrogantly against the righteous.

19 How great is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you,
which you bestow in the sight of men
on those who take refuge in you.

20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them
from the intrigues of men;
in your dwelling you keep them safe
from accusing tongues.

21 Praise be to the LORD,
for he showed his wonderful love to me
when I was in a besieged city.

22 In my alarm I said,
"I am cut off from your sight!"
Yet you heard my cry for mercy
when I called to you for help.

23 Love the LORD, all his saints!
The LORD preserves the faithful,
but the proud he pays back in full.

24 Be strong and take heart,
all you who hope in the LORD.

3. What truth is convicting you?

Encounters with Holiness

John 21:15- 19

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?"
"Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you."
Jesus said, "Feed my lambs."
16 Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?"
He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you."
Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."

17 The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?"
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you."

Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. 18 I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, "Follow me!"

Questions

3. How does Jesus respond to Peter?

4. How have your responded to holiness this week? Have you seen it in your life?

Prayer

Encounters With Holiness

John 4:46-54 (New International Version)

46 Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death. 48 "Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders," Jesus told him, "you will never believe." 49 The royal official said, "Sir, come down before my child dies." 50 Jesus replied, "You may go. Your son will live." The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, "The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour." 53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, "Your son will live." So he and all his household believed. 54 This was the second miraculous sign that Jesus performed, having come from Judea to Galilee.

Questions

1. How did the royal official respond to holiness? Before and After the healing?

2. Knowing who Jesus is, would you respond any differently? Why?

Prayer

Thank God that he has authority to heal, and thank God for the witness of the official who believed without seeing.

Is there an area of your life that you feel like Jesus needs to show up in person to heal or change it? Ask that God would give you the faith to trust him to heal and change it. Ask God for his peace.

Encounter with Holiness

Mark 2

1 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."
6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 "Why does this fellow talk like that? He's blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"

8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, "Why are you thinking these things? 9 Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up, take your mat and walk'? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins . . . ." He said to the paralytic, 11 "I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home." 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this!"

Questions

1. How does Jesus reveal His holiness in this situation?

2. How do the different people respond to it?

3. How does worshiping a holy God affect your daily living?

Prayer

Thank God that he is willing to heal our bodies and souls. Ask God to reveal is holiness to you today. Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you to live like Christ today, above your circumstances, and yet present in all interactions.

Encounters with Holiness - It demands a response.

Luke 5

1One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[a]with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, 2he saw at the water's edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down[b] the nets for a catch."

5Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."

6When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

8When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" 9For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners.

Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." 11So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Isaiah 6

1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:
"Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory."
4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

5 "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty."

6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for."

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

Questions

1. Holy simply means "set apart". How is God set apart from Isaiah? What imagery is there? What is said?

2. How does Isaiah respond to holiness?

3. How does God respond to Isaiah?

Prayer

Thank God for being holy, and ask God to set us apart for good works.

This Coming Week - Encounters with Holiness

Each day will have a portion of scripture that depicts an encounter of Holiness.

What is holiness? 1 Peter 3:15 says "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,"

Holiness is to be set apart. God is set apart from us because he is able to demonstrate love perfectly, justice perfectly, mercy perfectly. He is completely self sufficient, lacking in nothing.

What happens when a we encounter a holy God?

Drop Everything - Luke 5:4-11

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down[b] the nets for a catch." 5 Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets." 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

John 9: 23-27 - Take up your cross.

23 Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. 25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? 26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God."

Questions

2. What might loosing our life for Jesus look like today?

3. What might God be asking you to deny yourself of in order to gain more of Him?

He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

2. Is there someone whom you are haveing a hard time loving? Why?

Who is Jesus - Wednesday, April 21st

Hebrews 2:14-18

14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. 17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Questions

1. If you could be like anybody else, who would you be and why?

2. This passage tells us that Jesus is like one of us. Why is this good news?

3. Is Jesus ever surprised by our sin? Why?

4. After these past several days, how would you answer the questions? "Who is Jesus?"

Pray

Thank God for being like one of us and that he understands how hard it is to be human. Ask for God's help to understand those in your life who might be having a hard time, and how you might come along side them.

Next Step

Pick up the phone and call that person whom you know is struggling and ask " How are you doing? How can I come along side you?"

Who is Jesus? - Tuesday, April 20th

Hebrews 1:1-4

1 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

3. Can we trust Jesus to tell us about the Father? Why?

Pray

Give thanks that we can trust Jesus because he is the eact radiance of the Father. Ask that God would reveal this to someone in your family or a friend who has yet to see Jesus as God.

Who Is Jesus - Monday, April 19th

Colossains 1

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Questions

1. What kind of relationship does Jesus have to the Father, to creation, and to the church?

3. What role does Jesus play in each of those relationships?

God is Just - Romans 3:25-26

25 God presented Jesus as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his patience he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

Questions

1. When do you want God to be merciful, and when do you want him to be just?

2. How does God demonstrate his mercy, grace, and justice perfectly in this passage?

3. What part do we play in our own salvation?

Prayer

Give thanks for God being the prime initiator of our faith and for his justice made known in Jesus.

God is Unchangable - James 1:16-18

16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Questions

1. Is there a food that you either liked or disliked, and then you changed your mind about it? What changed?

2. What does this passage tell us about God? Why is this good news?

3. Think of something that seems unchangable,and then use that in the sentance " God is like . . . . . ". What word pictures come to mind.

Prayer

Using your new word pictures, thank God for being unchangable.

Winning at Home - Wednesday, April 14th.

God is holy - Luke 5;1-11

One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[a]with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, he saw at the water's edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners.

Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Questions

1. What is your most prized possession? How do you treat it? How do others know it is important to you?

2. Holy means "set apart". How does Jesus show that he is set apart from Peter?

3. How does Peter respond to the miracle? And how does Jesus respond to Peter?

Taking the Next Step

How can you set yourself apart? By treating others as better than yourself? By sharing those things that you prize most? (Being set apart doesn't mean prideful or arrogant, but set apart in how you love.)

Winning At Home - Tuesday, April 13th

God is Patient - Nehemiah 9:29-31

29 "You warned them to return to your law, but they became arrogant and disobeyed your commands. They sinned against your ordinances, by which a man will live if he obeys them. Stubbornly they turned their backs on you, became stiff-necked and refused to listen. 30 For many years you were patient with them. By your Spirit you admonished them through your prophets. Yet they paid no attention, so you handed them over to the neighboring peoples. 31 But in your great mercy you did not put an end to them or abandon them, for you are a gracious and merciful God.

Questions

1. When someone hurts your feelings are you slow to anger and quick to listen? Are you quick to anger, and slow to listening? How do you respond?

2. What does this portion tell us about people and God?

3. What does patience look like in this portion? (You might be surprised.)

Taking the Next Step

Patience doens't mean you ignore a wrong done. It's the way you respond. Before you make a judgement about some one, take a breath, and then you might ask them a question like "Can you help me to understand why you did (or said) what you did?"

Being patient might mean finding something else to play with until your friend is done playing with it instead of getting upset.

Winning At Home - April 12th

If you have never done a family devotional before, now is a great time to start. These devotionals are designed to do over breakfast, dinner, or just before bed. They'll only take 15 minutes, and will get the whole family involved.

Over the next three weeks we're going to focus on God's character, who is Jesus, and living like Jesus.

All you have to do is read the passage given for that day, answer the questions, and take the next step.

Ready to get started?

MONDAY - April 12th God is faithful.

2 Timothy 2:11-13

11 Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
12 if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
13 if we are faithless,
he will remain faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.

Questions

1. Have you ever made a promise that you weren't able to keep? How did it make you feel? How did the other person feel?

2. What does this passage say about us, and God?

3. The fact that God is a promise keeper is good news. Why is it good news to you?

Taking the Next Step

Instead of making a promise,make it a point this week to do what you say you will do, and don't promise what you can't.

Now, for Something Completely Different!

2 Corinthians 3:16-18

How good is your attention? How easy is it for you to get distracted? Where do you put your time and energy? Are you irritable and annoyed most of the time because life isn't going "as planned"?

I'll let you in on a secret. Life seldom goes as planned.

When Christ said " I came that you might have life and have it abundantly," he meant you would get to expereince it all.

I love this passage because it recognizes that our faces are veiled, and through Christ we are able to see more clearly.

Take time this week to thank God for the blessings in your life; for the freedom you have in Christ, and for the transformation that is happening in and through you.

D- something I would like to detach from myself

Prayer -
O Lord,
In this time of need, strengthen me. You are my strength and my shield; You are my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. I know, Father, that Your eyes go to and fro throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts long for You. The body grows weary, but my hope is in You to renew my strength.I do not fear, for You are with me. I am not dismayed or overwhelmed, for You are my God. I know You will strengthen me and help me; that You will uphold me with Your righteous hand. Even as the shadows of illness cover me, I feel the comfort of Your strength, Or Lord.
Amen.

Monday
John 17:13-21

Tuesday
1 Corinthians 1:4-10

Wednesday
Galatians 1:6-10

Thursday
Ephesians 1:18-23

Friday
Philipians 1:3-11

Saturday and Sunday
Colossians 1:9-11

Reading and Praying

Read these prayers for the universal and specific churches. Do you pray for the church? Why not? Why wouldn't you be praying for the body faith that is supporting and building you up in the faith. It needs prayer also. The church is more than a spiritual vending machine that provides different services based upon your needs. The church is people. It is your eternal family. Take time to pray through each of these passages for church because when you do, you are praying not only for others, but for yourself.

Challenge
Memorize one of the verses above. I'm going to memorize the Colossians passage. Ask me Sunday how it went.
